Lysanael

The Old Ones had outdone themselves when they’d created this female. Lysanael couldn’t tear his gaze away from the view of Resaynia—Revna—standing before the fire in that bathing sheet. The cloth clung to each curve of her strong body. Water droplets slid down the battle scars on her shoulder, a place his lips ached to kiss. His fingers twitched, wishing they could follow the water’s route under that sheet to explore the lovely lines of her form. He adjusted his trousers and forced himself to breathe evenly. She was angry. He could almost taste her rage in the air like a coming storm.

He commented on her rough language; teasing her felt natural. Whirling, she faced him, looking like a vengeful goddess to whom he would happily sacrifice himself. He shook himself mentally. Revna was truly lethal and so beyond anything he’d experienced in a person. A thrill buzzed up his spine and a wicked grin slicked over his lips. So interesting. He hadn’t wanted to put her under his thrall. That type of magic was incredibly foul. But he had to keep his mind in this game and not allow his lust for her to endanger him and those he lived to protect. Unless Gwyn’s safety depended on it, he would not use Revna’s name.

She marched over, one hand on her bath sheet and the other clasping air like it was desperate for a blade. “What did you make me do while under your thrall?” Her tone cut him as surely as any knife. “Answer me.”

“Why should I? Going to attempt murder once more?” He tsked her and delighted in the rage that boiled in her gaze. She was magnificent. “We’ve established that you’re not capable,” he said.

Revna threw a knee at his groin. He shifted his hips to block and her elbow flew at his nose. The strike missed his nose but hit his cheek, and pain bracketed away from the point of contact. With a snarl, she grabbed for his stones. He lifted his forearm to block, then latched his fingers onto her hair. Grunting, she clutched his hand—the one holding her hair. In an amazingly quick movement worthy of a Fae knight, she pressed his hand tightly against her skull, dropped back, then faked another elbow hit before balling her left hand into a fist and throwing a lead hook into his jaw.

Heat branched over his face and a growl escaped him. What a vicious little thing. He shook her slightly, still gripping her hair. She lost her hold and he pushed her to her knees. Looking down at the beautiful assassin, he narrowed his eyes. Her gaze belonged on a battlefield, not a bedchamber.

“Behave, my viper. I didn’t come here to fight.”

“Tell me what you made me do under your thrall,” she said. “Who did I kill and why?”

Kill? He would never have used her the way her master had. It was insulting that she would believe such a thing. “I owe you no explanations.”

Her chest moved in a deep breath, breasts rising and nearly escaping the damp sheet.
